Shade note: The 1717 is pigment and reactive garment-dyed, so every shade varies slightly piece to piece. That variation is part of the vintage look and is normal for the style. Always test press color and print on your exact colorway first.

Special order: The Comfort Colors 1717 is offered in a very wide garment-dyed range beyond our stocked colorways. 02Why It Earns More

It turns a print into a product people pay for.

When someone wears a 1717 it does not read as a printed promo shirt. The heavyweight cotton, the soft-washed garment-dyed color, and the relaxed vintage fit put your custom work in the same conversation as boutique streetwear. For Northeast brands, that is a higher price point and a customer buying a garment, not just a graphic.

03Fabric & Fit

Heavyweight, soft-washed, and built to last.

At 6.1 oz the 1717 is one of the heavier tees on the market, and the ring-spun US cotton gives it a smooth, substantial face. Soft-washing and garment dyeing leave it broken-in on day one, with a clean print surface and a lived-in softness customers notice right away.

The cut is a relaxed fit with a seamless tubular body for that classic vintage shape, and twill-taped neck and shoulders plus double-needle hems keep it durable through repeated wear and wash.

05Printing & Care

DTF printing and care for the 1717.

The 100% ring-spun cotton face of the Comfort Colors 1717 is well suited to DTF (direct-to-film) transfers. A finished DTF transfer is applied with a heat press, and the smooth cotton surface gives the ink an even base to bond to.

DTF transfer printing

Applying DTF transfers to the 1717

General pressing guidance for a clean, durable bond on garment-dyed cotton:

  • 1Use a flat heat press for even, consistent pressure across the whole design.
  • 2Follow the temperature, time, and pressure recommended by your transfer supplier, since settings vary by film and adhesive.
  • 3Pre-press the shirt briefly to remove moisture and flatten wrinkles before applying the transfer.
  • 4Peel the carrier film as directed for your specific transfer, hot or cold peel.
  • 5Because the 1717 is garment-dyed, shade varies piece to piece, so test press color and print on your exact garment first.

Handheld presses can work for small one-off designs, but a dedicated flat heat press is recommended for bulk and full-size prints where even pressure matters. Always confirm exact settings with your DTF transfer supplier or the DTF Jersey FAQs.

Care & washing

Keeping a printed 1717 looking right

To help a DTF-printed Comfort Colors 1717 hold up over time, general care guidance is:

  • Wait at least 24 hours after pressing before the first wash.
  • Turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the print surface.
  • Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle to protect both the print and the garment-dyed color.
  • Tumble dry low or hang to dry, and avoid high heat on the printed area.
  • Do not iron directly over a transfer.

Because the 1717 is pre-shrunk during the garment-dye and wash process, it has almost no shrinkage at home, which keeps sizing consistent across reorders and uniform programs. Follow the care label and your transfer supplier guidance for best results.

Fixes and answers before you press.

Common problems & fixes

Usually wrong press settings or peel timing. Too little heat, light pressure, or peeling against the transfer instructions causes early lifting.Fix: 280 to 300°F for 10 to 15 sec, medium pressure (6 KG), pre-press to flatten, and peel hot or cold per your transfer.
Garment dyeing means each 1717 varies slightly in shade, and dye lots can differ. This is the vintage look, not a defect.Fix: order all pieces of one run together, and test print and press color on your exact garment first.
Cracking comes from hot washing or high-heat drying weakening the cured DTF layer over time.Fix: wash inside-out in cold water, tumble-dry low or hang-dry, and add care notes to your insert.
The 1717 is 100% cotton, and sublimation dye only bonds to polyester fibers.Fix: use a high-polyester blank for sublimation work.
